In May 1958, J.C. West opens the Sahara Drive-In Theater at 1570 E. U.S. Highway 66 in Grants, New Mexico.
The Sahara Drive-In Theatre was built with a capacity to house 400 cars, complete with a concession stand and projector room upstairs. The screen was located on the north end of the property. The Sahara Drive-In sign is designed as a camel with the poles as the legs, the body is the marque, and a pyramid at the top with palm trees on both sides of the base, the Sahara letters represent the camel's hump.
The Sahara's opening feature was "Battle Cry" by Warner Bros., staring: Van Heflin, Aldo Ray, Mona Freeman and more.

In 1964 the Sahara Drive-In closes after 5 years since its opening. With the closure leaving both Grants and Milan with the LUX, West Theatres and The TRAILS Drive-In Theatre. As for the cause of the closure is unknown at the present time.

In 1967 Frank and Hope McClure built and opened an American classic, Stuckey's Pecan Shoppe #99 on U.S. Route 66 in Horace, New Mexico located 4 miles East of Grants, New Mexico.
Frank and Hope McClure also were the owners of the Stuckey's Pecan Shoppe located at Rio Puerco, New Mexico in the mid 1960's, which was torn down for the construction of Interstate 40.
In 1971-1972 Frank and Hope built a new Stuckey's Candy Shoppe in Rio Puerco, located where Route 66 Travel Center now sits.
